Where's My Free Mini-Expansion?

If you were eligible to receive the free mini-expansion it will show up under your pledge level items on the right side of the Add-Ons page. You’ll have to hit “Get Started!” on the landing page in order to see that.

As a reminder, the requirements to qualify for the free mini-expansion were two-fold: be subscribed to our mailing list at the conclusion of the campaign and back at least the base pledge ($50) level.

If you backed at a $1 level, did a late pledge (preorder), unsubscribed prior to the end of the campaign, had your payment fail, or cancelled your pledge you will unfortunately not be eligible for the free mini-expansion so you won’t see it in your pledge. You can still purchase it at a 10% discount ($4.50) if you would like.

I backed at the $1 level and want to upgrade, how do I do that?

You can change your pledge on the landing page (the first page, with the big green “Get Started!” button) by clicking the “Switch your Pledge Level” link in the bottom right corner (below the “Get Started!” button).

I backed at the $1 level and don't want to upgrade. What should I do?

All you have to do is go through the survey and hit “Place My Order” at the end. It won’t ask for your address or charge you anything, and then your survey will be marked as completed so you’ll stop getting reminders to fill out your pledge :)

How do I change my pledge level?

How do I add an add-on? (i.e. you backed the Base pledge and want to add the Nightfall expansion)

Hit the green “Get Started!” button on the landing page and you should be taken to the Add-Ons page, where you can add extra items to your pledge. Hit “Add to Cart” on the add-on you want and you’ll be set!

How do I select Local Pickup?

You can select local pickup on the landing page (the first page, with the big green “Get Started!” button) in the “Select your country for shipping” drop-down. Simply click the drop-down and select Local Pickup! Please still enter your address (at least your city and state) so we know which city to ship the game to.

Note that local pickup is available in Minneapolis, MN and Appleton, WI. Depending on how many backers select this option we will either create group pickup times or coordinate one-off pickups.

How is The Stifling Dark different from other hidden movement games?

Unlike other hidden movement games, our unique flashlight line-of-sight mechanic allows the hidden player’s movement to not be restricted to a specific path. The flashlight also eliminates line-of-sight arguments and quickly shows which spaces are visible and which spaces are not.

Does The Stifling Dark have a solo mode?

No, and we do not expect to release a solo mode due to the one-vs-many nature of the game. That said, if you have an idea that might work feel free to reach out and let us know!

Are customs charges included in the cost of the pledge?

We have fulfillment hubs located in the US, Canada, the UK, and China. This means that for most of our backers we will be shipping from within the region, so customs and import duties will already be accounted for and are included in the cost of the pledge.

In the unlikely event you live in a region outside of our coverage, you will be responsible for any applicable customs and duties.

Can I buy multiple copies to get a discount and/or save on shipping?

You sure can! You’ll receive $10 off each additional game (up to a total of 5 additional games). Simply select the pledge you want, select the corresponding add-on, and enter the quantity of additional games you want.

Shipping will only be an extra $5 per copy and will be charged in the pledge manager, along with any incremental taxes (including VAT). Note that you must ship all copies to the same address.

Will The Stifling Dark be available in retail stores after the Kickstarter? If so, what will be the difference between the Kickstarter version and the retail version?

We have had a number of retailers express interest in backing The Stifling Dark on Kickstarter, but we have not yet signed any distribution deals so we do not currently have a national presence. Depending on how well our Kickstarter goes we may end up signing distribution deals, but this is far from guaranteed.

Feel free to visit your friendly local game store to tell them about our Kickstarter if you want to see them carry the game!

There will be no difference between the Kickstarter version of the game and the retail version of the game, aside from any first print run exclusives that are unlocked once we sell out of our first print run.

Is The Stifling Dark available on Tabletop Simulator or any other virtual platforms?

The game is available for free in the Steam Workshop for Tabletop Simulator (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2269899954). We also have a Tabletop Playground version available here (https://tabletopplayground.mod.io/the-stifling-dark). Due to limitations with other platforms (relating to hidden movement, rotation increments, and flashlight transparency) we unfortunately do not have the game available on any other platforms.

Will The Stifling Dark be available in other languages besides English?

We recently partnered with M.O.B. Vanguard for localization but have not signed any contracts yet. That said, we hope to bring The Stifling Dark to other languages in the near future!

What is the size of the box?

The core box is currently 312x312x76mm / 12.3x12.3x3” but is subject to change based on how well the Kickstarter does. For example, certain stretch goals may require us to increase the size of the box.

The expansion box is currently 214x146x25mm / 8.4x5.7x1” and is subject to change based on how well the Kickstarter does.

What size are the cards in The Stifling Dark?

65x100mm (Magnum, like 7 Wonders, https://www.maydaygames.com/collections/all-card-sleeves/products/7-wonders-card-sleeves)

44x68mm (Mini Euro, like the Ticket to Ride USA train cards, https://www.maydaygames.com/collections/all-card-sleeves/products/mini-euro-card-sleeves)

At this point in time there are 110 full-size cards and 105 mini cards in the game, but that number is subject to change prior to fulfillment.

Will the expansion and stretch goals fit in the base game box, and will the insert fit sleeved cards?

The Nightfall expansion will come in a separate box, but the components will fit inside the base game box. Similarly, the insert in the base game box will fit sleeved cards. Stretch goals will all fit in the base game box as well.

What will the MSRP for The Stifling Dark be?

We currently plan MSRP to be $60 for the base game and $20 for the expansion, but this is subject to change slightly based on how the Kickstarter does. The MSRP of the card sleeves (assuming we will have 2 packs of each size) is $10.

What is the refund policy for The Stifling Dark?

You may fully refund your pledge up until 14 days after the campaign concludes with no questions asked and no penalties applied.

If you end up needing a refund after 14 days (but before the game has shipped), we will be happy to refund your money but will need to deduct a 10% fee from the refund to account for the Kickstarter and payment processing fees that we will have incurred by that point.

Once the game has shipped we are unable to offer refunds other than for reasons discussed in the damages and replacements policy on our main Kickstarter page.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.

NOTE: These are the same Terms and Conditions we have listed on our Kickstarter page - they have not changed.

REFUND POLICY

We completely understand that life happens and things may change between when you first pledge and when it comes time to finalize your pledge. For that reason, we will allow refunds up until fulfillment has begun. You may fully refund your pledge up until 14 days after the campaign concludes with no questions asked and no penalties applied.

If you end up needing a refund after 14 days (but before the game has shipped), we will be happy to refund your money but will need to deduct a 10% fee from the refund to account for the Kickstarter and payment processing fees that we will have incurred by that point. Once the game has shipped we are unable to offer refunds other than for reasons discussed in the damages and replacements policy below.

Refunds that take place within 14 days of the campaign closing will be refunded to the original credit card via Stripe, whereas refunds that take place after 14 days will be processed via PayPal. As we are a US-based company, all refunds will be in USD and will be based on the exact amount we received at the time your pledge was collected (less the 10% fee if the refund takes place after 14 days).

DAMAGES AND REPLACEMENTS POLICY

We will be asking our manufacturer and each of our fulfillment partners to securely and safely package each game, but there is still a chance that your game could arrive damaged. If that's the case, please reach out to support@sophisticatedcerberus.com and we will work with you to resolve the issue. Depending on the situation, we may offer you a full refund, a partial refund, and/or ship out replacement parts.

Each game will have a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects. Please note that this does not cover accidents, improper use, loss, or theft. If you would like to file a warranty claim, please reach out to support@sophisticatedcerberus.com.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

As a backer, your primary responsibility is to ensure timely and accurate submission of your pledge via our pledge manager. If you fail to fill out the pledge manager prior to the deadline we will not know where to ship your game and will be unable to complete your pledge.

If you reach out prior to the beginning of fulfillment we will do our best to still get your game to you, but it will almost certainly be delayed and could incur additional charges if we need to handle it as a one-off (vs. shipping in bulk like we would for pledges that were completed on-time). If you do not fill out the pledge manager and do not contact us prior to the beginning of fulfillment we will consider your pledge a donation and you will not be shipped any rewards.

Likewise, we will not be responsible for replacement of rewards if invalid addresses are entered into the pledge manager. You will be able to edit your address up until the beginning of fulfillment, so please be sure to keep your shipping address up to date and validate it before we begin shipping the game. In the event that you need to change your address between when your pledge locks and when the game ships, please reach out to support@sophisticatedcerberus.com.

Lastly, please note that the content (including the artwork and components) within each pledge level may change between now and the final version of the game. The primary reason for any significant changes will likely be due to component availability, but we will keep everyone informed if any such changes occur. Other changes will be minor and could include artwork and text updates or the addition or removal of a few cards here and there.
